Objectives

  1. To offer courses that provide the academic foundation of transfer students as measured by the acceptance of those students at four-year colleges and universities.
  2. To continue courses that provide a general education in the unique background of different nations, cultures, ethnic groups and the state of California, as evidenced by the acceptance of these courses in meeting graduation requirements.
  3. To continue a program of staff development as measured by periodic peer evaluation and/or the appropriate staff development committees.
  4. To provide counseling information relative to advanced work in this field or for students who are having academic difficulty as measured by student evaluations.

The History Department offers a variety of General Education and Elective courses. There are a number of ways that these courses might be used for continuing education by students. Most commonly, students focus upon an Associate Degree for Transfer in History to the California State University System or focus on an appropriate IGETC plan for transfer to a University of California campus.

There are a number of individual paths that a student might take depending upon their future educational goals. In all cases, students planning to transfer to a four-year institution are strongly urged to consult regularly with an OCC Councilor and also the Admissions Department of any potential academic institution that he or she might wish to transfer to.
