About

Dual enrollment at Orange Coast College enables high school students or students attending a noncredit or adult education high school diploma or equivalency program the opportunity to take college courses. These college courses earn you units towards a degree (Certificate or Associate's) or can be transferred to other colleges/universities. These courses can also count toward your high school diploma (or adult equivalency) allowing students to get a head start on their higher education goals.

Which Kind of Dual Enrollment Student are You?

Dual Enrollment Types

Standard Dual Enrollment

  • Who: Current High School Students
  • When: Fall, Intersession, Spring, and Summer Semesters
  • Where: Orange Coast College's Campus or Online
  • Fees: Subject to all fees, except enrollment fees

In Standard Dual Enrollment, students enroll in OCC courses that are not covered by a CCAP partnership agreement with a local high school district. Enrollment fees are waived but college-related fees apply. Students are also responsible for the cost of any books and supplies. Students receive college credit for courses taken, but their high school will determine if they are able to receive dual credit towards their high school graduation requirements as well.

CCAP Dual Enrollment

  • Who: Current High School Students
  • When: Fall and Spring Semesters
  • Where: Local High School Campus during school hours
  • Fees: Subject to textbook fees if the high school district does not cover them

In CCAP Dual Enrollment, students enroll in OCC courses offered as part of a College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) partnership agreement between the Coast Community College District and a local high school district. Classes taught at a high school are restricted and are only open to students from a participating high school district. Your instructor will notify you if your class is a CCAP course. Students receive both high school and college credit for completing courses in the Dual Enrollment program.

Check out this video on How to Check and Clear a Prerequisite. If you have further questions about Prerequisite Clearances, please contact our Assessment Center at occclearance@occ.cccd.edu.
  • Transferring Credits: Students planning to apply coursework taken at OCC toward high school or 4 year university requirements should contact the respective institutions regarding their policies for prior coursework.
  • Unit Equivalency: The University of California recognizes college semester-length courses of 3-semester units as equivalent to 10 credits earned in an eligible one-year high school course.
    • Exception: The first semester of a college level foreign language course is considered to be equivalent to the first two years of high school foreign language (20 credits).
