Three Orange Coast College employees received a special commendation from the Orange County Health Care Agency’s Tobacco and Vape Free OC Coalition on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Director of Mental Health Services Kelly Daly, Health Educator Janice Iglesias, and Health faculty Anna Hanlon were recognized for their efforts to make OCC a tobacco and vape free campus at a virtual meeting after being nominated by a coalition member.
Daly, Iglesias and Hanlon played key roles in the move to transition OCC into a 100 percent smoke and tobacco free campus, which was approved by the Coast Community College Board of Trustees on June 17. “It is great to be recognized by the OCHCA and the Coalition for making a contribution to our community,” says Hanlon.
The College will receive a certificate from the Coalition, and will be recognized at a ceremony next year alongside other local organizations who have adopted 100 percent smoke free policies.
The Tobacco and Vape Free OC Coalition was founded in 1990. The Coalition’s mission is to reduce the use of tobacco and non-cessation nicotine (including electronic delivery systems) and to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke and vapor in Orange County. The goal is to engage diverse and non-traditional partners and support the Coalition in its efforts. Coalition members typically meet every other month, however, due to the pandemic these meetings are now held virtually.
