Orange Coast College won the perpetual sweepstakes award, and tied for 3rd place in large entry sweepstakes at the California Community College Forensics Association (CCCFA) state championship tournament on March 13.
The CCCFA tournament took place virtually, and OCC’s team tied for third place with Moorpark College. Diablo Valley College received second place and Mt. San Antonio College took the top award.
“This was the first high stakes tournament for the students and they did what they needed to do, “ says Director of Debate Hannah Haghighat. “We had a few historical moments mixed with many great learning experiences and we are proud of what the students were able to do.”
CCCFA has announced that this year’s State Championship Tournament was the last online tournament of the year.
OCC’s Speech, Debate, and Theater team is gearing up for the Phi Rho Pi National Championship Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri, scheduled for April 3–9.
“Many thanks to our wonderful and supportive faculty and staff,” says Director of Forensics Shauhin Davari. “We hope to continue to make you all proud. Go Pirates!”
