The Associated Students of Orange Coast College have always supported clubs on campus – even in the first years of the college.  The nature of the clubs has varied from year to year.  For example, clubs in 1948 and 1949 included the Future Farmers of America, The Ukes (ukuleles), and the Aviation Club. The college catalog 1948 also mentions an hour without classes (11 a.m. to noon) for club and activity meetings.

In 2023, there were more than 50 clubs, including the Computer Science Club, Mountain Biking, and the Gamers Guild.  In the early years, there was a Tennis Club and a Sailing Club, while now there are Sailing programs and Tennis and Rowing Athletic Teams.

By college and district policies, every club is open to all students – No clubs with restrictive memberships are approved – other than scholastic societies requiring a minimum GPA.  This restricts secret organizations and fraternal groups such as sororities and fraternities from starting on the campuses.

When students get involved on campus through participation in extra and co-curricular activities, they are more committed, feel more a part of the larger community, and are more satisfied with their experience at OCC.  This is something that has stayed the same over the years.  Please encourage your students to visit the Pirate Involvement Fair on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Main Quad on campus by the Student Union.
