Orange Coast College will bring back its annual Green Coast Day event in person on April 19. This campus-wide event will run from 8:45 a.m. until 3 p.m. with various environment-themed offerings.
“The goal is to promote awareness and recognize outstanding student academic achievements,” Instructor of Business and President of the Academic Senate Lee Gordon said. “It is about student engagement, getting students involved, and bringing the campus together. The environment is important, and this is how we bring awareness.”
Green Coast Day has been held annually since its creation in 2009. With a pause for Covid precautions in 2019, the event returned to Zoom 2022 in a forum-style setting and returns fully in person this year.
“It is an opportunity for students to become a little more aware and to take action,” Instructional computer lab coordinator in MBCC John Fawcett said. “We need to take action, or our planet will be confined in a layer of plastic.”
Sponsoring organizations of the event are Garrison Honors Center, Coast Report, OCC Fashion, Sustainability Committee, and Orange Coast College Planetarium.
