Orange Coast College is excited to bring “Rent” to the Drama Lab stage this May. The musical is a faculty-directed mainstage production directed by Tom Bruno with the help of musical director Jared Scott III, choreographer Bitty Hammond, and scenic designer David Scaglione.
“As usual, we were blown away by the level of talent shown by OCC students at auditions,” Bruno says. True to form, our cast is excited, prepared, creative, and powerful. It is an absolutely delightful assembly of young artists—audiences should prepare to have their socks knocked off!”
“Rent,” an award-winning blockbuster by Jonathan Larsen, is a poignant portrayal of a year in the lives of struggling artists in 1980’s New York City. The group of friends, facing poverty, homelessness, and the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS, navigate the social tension and political unrest of the period. Students from OCC embody the characters, bringing their stories to life onstage and backstage, as the cast struggles and celebrates to find out what matters most in life.
