Orange Coast College’s Dance Department will present its annual Spring Dance Celebration on Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert B. Moore Theatre. The event will be directed by Dance Chair Rachel Berman, promising an exhilarating evening of performances.
This production will showcase the department’s exceptional dancing and cultural diversity, highlighting the Dance Program and featuring choreographic premieres by OCC students and faculty members Emily Chapman (Contemporary Ballet), Marru Mikaelian (Tahitian), Sarah Stanley (Contemporary), MJ Wolf (Jazz), along with a contemporary dance film by Berman.
OCC students will present works in a variety of styles, including Hip Hop and Contemporary. As in previous years, the concert reflects the students’ artistry and willingness to address difficult subject matter and everyday struggles. The dance works will focus on themes of heartbreak, identity, loss, and isolation — topics particularly relevant to today’s youth. Through their art, the students maintain hope for the future.
“This highly anticipated annual concert provides an opportunity to showcase our multi-talented dancers in works made by their faculty and peers,” says Berman. “Our student choreographers get to explore their unique artistry in a main stage production and highlight everything we offer at OCC.”
Tickets can be purchased at OCC Tickets for $20 for general admission and $15 for students. Parking will be available in Lots C and D near the Robert B. Moore Theatre.
