Orange Coast College's Theatre Department will present "Twelfth Night, the Musical" from March 20-29 in the Drama Lab Theatre, brought to life by a wonderful cast and crew of OCC students.

The romantic comedy, based on William Shakespeare's comic masterpiece of mistaken identity and romance, follows the love triangle of Duke Orsino (Matthew Gutierrez), Lady Olivia (Arpi Garadahgian), and Viola (Jillian Smead) in the mythical city of Illyria. This brilliant new adaptation by Shaina Taub and Kwame Kwei-Arma features a scintillating original jazz-funk score, bringing the classic story to life in a modern setting.

The OCC production of "Twelfth Night, the Musical" is directed by Mike Peebler, with musical direction by Jared Scott III and choreography by MJ Wolfe.

"Illyria is here, there, and everywhere. No one is an expert in our Illyria. Our Illyria is not set in any one specific era or locale, rather in an imagined city where all cultures are welcome. Our Illyria is filled with different musical styles- ranging from New Orleans jazz to Motown soul to Broadway show tunes to 80s pop- in order to create as inclusive a world as possible."

Performances will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m., with the last Sunday being a 2:30 p.m. matinee showing. Tickets can be purchased for $20 for the general public and $12 for students, senior citizens or military. Tickets are sold online only at the OCC Tickets website.

Free parking is available in Lot C during performance times.
