October 20, 2023 Update

Friday, October 20, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

We have reached the mid-way point of the fall semester and are approaching the end of our year-long 75th Anniversary celebration. One of those festivities took place yesterday — the Chemistry Building Topping Off Ceremony. We were joined by many college and community members who participated in the event by signing the last beam as a symbol of reaching a major milestone in the completion of this important project.

When completed in Fall 2024, the Chemistry Building will include one large lecture room, two medium lecture rooms, two organic chemistry labs, and seven chemistry labs, among other features. The two-story building will open its doors for students in Spring 2025 and will be a place that inspires our students to dream, learn, and thrive.

It is a collective effort from the Measure M team, Facilities team, and many District and campus colleagues, who have championed this project with planning that began almost 13 years ago. Specifically, I would like to acknowledge the steadfast commitment and leadership of Chemistry Department Chairperson Tom Mucciaro, Chemistry Instructional Lab Coordinator Cecilia Schreyer, and Dean of Math & Sciences Dr. Tara Giblin.

Let’s finish this semester strong and continue our 75th anniversary celebration with another cherished OCC annual event– Community Science Night on November 3.

I look forward to seeing you on campus.

Sincerely,
Angelica L. Suarez, Ph.D.
Orange Coast College President
