May 15, 2026 Update

Friday, May 15, 2026

Dear Colleagues,

As we head into the final stretch of the academic year at Orange Coast College, the energy on campus is a wonderful reminder of why we do this work. This is the season when our students’ hard work transforms into tangible achievement.

A standout moment was our 68th Honors Night, where the OCC Foundation awarded 660 scholarships totaling an unprecedented $1.3 million to hundreds of students. This remarkable milestone reflects our community’s deep commitment to student success and the steadfast support of the OCC Foundation over many decades.

Additionally, many of our students are receiving exciting transfer acceptance letters and preparing for the next chapter of their educational journeys. Among them are Damar Hernandez, an international student from Mexico majoring in Hospitality, who will be transferring to Cal Poly Pomona, and Samuel Do, who works at Pirates’ Cove and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, will be transferring to UC Berkeley majoring in Cognitive Science. Their accomplishments reflect the opportunities that await our graduates and the excellence cultivated at OCC.

As we look ahead to our annual Allied Health Pinning Ceremony on May 21 and the 78th Commencement Ceremony on May 22, please know I deeply appreciate your dedication and commitment to the success of our students and the generational impact these experiences have on families and communities. Thank you for inspiring, supporting, and caring for our students, not only as educators, but also as mentors and champions of their success.

Sincerely,
Angelica L. Suarez, Ph.D.
Orange Coast College President
