The purpose of the Pirate's Plank is to encourage OCC students to solve problems and inspire their entrepreneurial spirit. The event will showcase OCC students who have dreams and aspirations of shaping their future and ours. This event is much like the ABC's Shark Tank show, but with an emphasis on encouragement and advice.
The students will present their business ideas to a panel of judges who are three local business leaders and owners. The judges will listen to the presentation and ask questions regarding the viability of the product in the marketplace. The judges will also offer advice on how to improve their solution and presentation. The environment is one of learning and nurturing. All students who present will receive invaluable advice and a memento of the event. Of all the presenters, two will be selected as "Most Likely to Succeed" and "Most Innovative". These two winners will also receive cash prizes of $500 each, internship in OCC MakerSpace, and one-on-one consultation with Digital Media Expert, Prof. Cora Volkoff.
