The Pillars of Guided Pathways

• Clarify the Path

  Clarifying the Path is all about creating clear curricular pathways that result in students gaining access to employment and further education. When the paths are clear, it is easier for students to select the right one for them.

  Clarify the Path work includes

  • Simplifying choices and allowing for easier switches of programs of study within designed pathways that cluster like programs together
  • Establishing transfer pathways that help students complete their goal of transferring in shorter times with applicable units
• Enter the Path

  Entering the Path is all about helping students select the right pathway for them. This work includes

  • Working with local high schools to help students begin their college course work and path selection sooner
  • Guiding students towards key courses sooner 
  • Helping students explore careers so that they can select their pathway earlier
• Stay on the Path

  Staying on the Path is about helping students to keep going and complete their educational goals. This work includes

  • Strong counseling and advising at the beginning and throughout students' college
  • Ensuring students know about the support and academic programs and opportunities that can help them succeed in school: free tutoring, faculty office hours, and programs that can help depending on a student's identity (EOPS, Student Equity, Guardian Scholars, UMOJA, Veterans Resources, etc.).
  • Opportunities to receive counseling about when to drop a class, how to remediate from a course that did not result in the desired grades, etc.
• Ensure Learning

  Ensure Learning is about ensuring that students are learning what they need to learn to thrive. This work includes

  • Establishing "Learning Outcomes" for each course, program, and at the College level, which can be used to assess whether set learning goals have been reached
  • Include work-based learning, group projects, internships, etc within course work and in other college opportunities to ensure that students are learning what they need to be successful in their chosen careers
  • Interacting with students to collect feedback on College courses and their experiences
