May 10, 2024 Update

Friday, May 10, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

May is designated as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. This month is an opportunity to recognize the vibrant communities' contributions, achievements, and cultures and how they have enriched and shaped our history.

At Orange Coast College, the contributions of our AANHPI community are extensive. We take pride in our designation as an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI). Additionally, as a global institution, our international students come from various countries on the Asian continent, and many out-of-state students join us from Hawaii. The rich diversity of our alumni, is represented in the story of Mata Grey of Common Kings, a testament to the culture of inclusivity at OCC.

This month, OCC’s Multicultural Center is hosting a series of events to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month. Yesterday’s campus-wide celebration event included dance and music performances and a resource fair. This vibrant event showcased the rich culture of these diverse communities. Please visit the Multicultural Center website for more details on the scheduled events.

Please join me in celebrating our AANHPI community's diverse experiences by attending the many events planned throughout the month.

Sincerely,
Angelica L. Suarez, Ph.D.
Orange Coast College President
