The focus of the Writing & Humanities Tutoring Center (WHTC) is to help students become more competent and confident writers and critical thinkers. The Center provides learning assistance and support to all students seeking help with writing work for any class on campus. Students can also come to the Center to receive help from tutors with specialized knowledge of the following academic subjects: the humanities, the social and behavioral sciences, foreign languages, English as a Second Language, and accounting. Our tutors help students achieve their academic and personal goals. Overseen by English faculty, in collaboration with faculty from other divisions, the WHTC provides self-directed one-on-one tutoring, Directed Learning Activities (DLAs) that strengthen specific skills, group workshops, and study groups.
Tutors are trained in interpersonal communication, study skills techniques, and the Socratic method; they are also ready to help students deepen their understanding and participation in the writing process.
The mission of the WHTC is to create a nurturing environment that supports all student learning.
