Note-taking assistance is an accommodation facilitated by the Accessibility Resource Center. Complete the following note-taking request form for each course:
ARC students may not need to submit the online request for the accommodation of note-taking assistance if the following options are applicable:
- Shared classroom notes on Canvas and/or PowerPoint lectures that are uploaded to Canvas. Please talk to the instructor about the documents that are available on Canvas.
- Guided Notes/teacher-prepared hand-outs that outline or map lectures/class content. Guided notes may be available for a science lab course. If notes during lab classes are not needed, you may not need to request Note-taking Assistance. Discuss this with your instructor.
Note-Taking Assistance Offered
Otter.ai — Otter.ai is a powerful audio recording and transcription app with a built-in AI assistant that helps you capture and organize your class notes. With Otter.ai, you can record lectures, receive automatic transcriptions, and review key points later instead of trying to write everything down in the moment. This assistive technology supports your note-taking, enhances your understanding of course material, and helps you stay organized throughout the semester.
Peer Note-Taking Assistance
Process for Note-Taking Assistance:
- ARC student submits an Accommodation Request for Note-taking Assistance. It's recommended that you submit your request before the first week of the semester.
- In coordination with your professor, we attempt to secure a copy of the classroom notes.
- If copies of the classroom notes are not received within two (2) weeks from the date of the Accommodation Request submission, it is the ARC STUDENT's responsibility to notify the ARC Notes-taking service coordinator.
- Depending on the availability of existing notes, ARC will work with your instructor to provide copies of past notes (if applicable), follow up on securing a student volunteer note-taker, or suggest other alternatives. NCR Paper (carbonless duplicate paper) may also be used if the volunteer desires.
- ARC students will receive an email with a shared link to access the notes on the ARC Google Docs. This allows ARC students to access their class notes (anytime or anywhere), as long as they have an internet connection.
Questions: If you have any questions or challenges, please contact the ARC staff at arcnotes@cccd.edu or call (714) 432-5535.
