The Student Success Center (SSC) is a centralized tutorial center that offers a variety of services and programs to OCC students––free of charge. To access these services, students must be enrolled in the classes at OCC for which they want tutoring, and students must register with the SSC every semester.

For the safety of our students and staff, most tutoring is currently being offered via Zoom sessions. If you have questions about availability of tutors for your class, please email us at

Students can receive up to 13 hours of tutoring per week at the Student Success Center: 5 hours per week for writing and 8 hours per week for math and subject specific tutoring.

Tutoring Areas

Math Area: The Math Area provides tutoring for most math classes and other courses that include math concepts. Students can schedule one-on-one appointments with tutors online or utilize our drop-in tutoring services on campus. Upon instructor’s request, the Student Success Center staff can also set up study groups, where students from the same class can meet with a tutor on a weekly basis to work on class-specific content, homework, and test preparation.

To see if we currently have tutors to help with your classes, email our Tutorial Services Specialist for the Math Area, Michael Oquist, at

Writing & Reading Area: Students working on a writing or reading-related assignment for any OCC class can meet with a tutor for a one-on-one appointment or work on a Directed Learning Activity. The Writing & Reading Area is not currently offering ESL conversation groups or hour-long workshops, but students can schedule one-on-one tutoring appointments to work on their conversational skills, and if instructors would like to arrange group Directed Learning Activities, please contact Sabrina Sapal, Tutorial Services Specialist, at

General Subjects Area: The Student Success Center offers students one-on-one appointments and group study options for a variety of courses in the Business & Computing, Consumer & Health Sciences, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Mathematics & Sciences divisions as well as World Languages.
