Certification Requirements

According to Orange Coast College Academic Senate, certification is required to teach in online formats at Orange Coast College. The Advanced Course is based on the training and guidelines from the California Virtual College (cvc.edu).
Canvas Basics
This is a required training for all new faculty. The course introduces the basics of using Canvas faculty can use for their classes. Topics include setting up Canvas pages, assignments, quizzes, and accessilbity review. NOTE: This does not qualify you to become an online faculty.

Online Teaching and Design (OTD)
Online Teaching & Design meets you where you are — whether you're stepping into online teaching for the first time or looking to strengthen a course you've taught before. This learn-by-doing certification prepares OCC instructors to design, build, and teach effective, accessible, and legally compliant online courses that meet ACCJC accreditation expectations, federal Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) requirements, and OEI/CVC Course Design Standards. Fast-paced and innovative, it is perfect for instructors new to Canvas or online teaching, while also offering fresh ideas for enhancing courses you already teach.
