Bring Stories to Life Through Art

The Narrative Illustration Certificate and AS trains students to tell unforgettable stories through images — from book covers and comics to concept art and animation. You’ll start with solid foundations in drawing, design, and digital media, then build advanced skills in illustration, storytelling, and professional practice. Choose electives like Cartooning, Character Design, Watercolor, or Life Painting to shape your own creative path. By the end, you’ll have a polished portfolio and the skills to launch a freelance career or transfer into a top illustration degree program.

Core Classes for Narrative Illustration include: Narrative Illustration, Story Illustration Techniques, Character Design 1 & 2, Figure Drawing for Animators and Illustrators, Digital Painting, and Advanced Drawing.

How to Get Started

The first step is to declare your major. After you enroll at OCC and meet with your counselor, ask them to add the Narrative Illustration certificate or AS degree to your Education Plan. You can begin classes before declaring, but declaring early ensures you’re on the right track.
