Sustainability Efforts at OCC

Sustainability at Orange Coast College began with the very first Earth Day in 1970, which spawned a small-scale, student-led recycling effort.  Soon after, the Orange Coast College Recycling Center was founded, sitting on a single acre of land on the OCC campus.  In 2017, construction on a brand new state-of-the-art three-acre recycling center facility was finished, the first facility in the world to attain all three of the United States Green Building Council's certifications: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold, Sustainable Sites (SITES) Gold, and Total Resource Use and Efficiency (TRUE) Zero Waste Platinum.  To this day, the OCC Recycling Center is at the heart of OCC's sustainability initiatives, offering recycling services to the both the campus and our surrounding community.
