New Courses. New Pathways. Same Commitment to Your Success.

Starting Fall 2025, Orange Coast College is making important updates to help you graduate and transfer faster, more clearly, and with greater confidence. These changes come from new statewide initiatives to help students like you complete your college goals and transfer with ease. As many of these changes affect things such as registration, course selection, degree selection, graduation, and transfer, it's important that you read over this information to find out how it will impact you.

What's Changing?

Cal-GETC: A Simpler Path to Transfer

Starting in Fall 2025, there will be a new general education pathway for CSU and UC transfers called the Cal-GETC. This will replace the current IGETC and CSU GE Breadth patterns, combining them into one unified system. The goal of this new pathway is to make transferring easier and more efficient for you.

Common Course Numbering (CCN)

All California Community Colleges, including Orange Coast College, will adopt a statewide system of shared course numbers that will make it easier to track which courses are equivalent and streamline the transfer process. This system, known as Common Course Number (CCN), will go into effect starting Fall 2025.

New Math Entry Point for STEM Students

Thanks to new state legislation (AB 1705), OCC is now able to make it easier to reach your STEM goals. If you need STEM Calculus, in many cases, you will be able to jump right into Calculus I. We’ve redesigned the path to be shorter, more supportive, and more focused on getting you where you want to go.

Course Program of Study (CPOS) for Federal Financial Aid

To ensure that students are enrolled in the right courses to stay on track for timely graduation or transfer, as well as to comply with federal requirements, the Coast District is implementing CPOS (Course Program of Study). This process requires that Federal Financial Aid be applied to courses aligned with your declared program of study.
