Our certificates provide a hierarchy of preparation, building upon one another, to work in the field of early care and education. Each certificate increasingly meets the requirements for a California Child Development Permit at higher levels, and will be noted on the student's transcript.
- Child Development Core: 12 units
- Child Development Assistant Teacher: 14-15 units
- Child Development Associate Teacher: 24-25 units
- Child Development Lead Teacher: 34 units +
- Must also complete a 'specialization' certificate (see below for options)
The smaller certificates of achievement listed below enable the holder to further study an area of specialization which provides continuing professional development and enhances one’s employability. These certificates satisfy the Units of Specialization required for the Child Development Permit at the Master Teacher level and count toward professional growth hours for Permit renewal.
Completion of a specialization certificate is required as part of the Child Development Lead Teacher Certificate.
- Child Development Curriculum Specializationn: 9 units
- Elementary Education Specialization: 12 units
- Working with Exceptional Children Specialization: 11 units
- Child Development Administration Specialization: 12 units
