Complete step one of priority registration: online orientation.
Your online orientation is accessed through your MyCoast Portal. For more guidance, you can check out our video on How to Access Your Online Orientation.
In order to receive credit for finishing your online orientation, you need to complete all 9 modules with an 86% or better. You should see a green checkmark on your priority registration eligibility checklist within 24 hours.
Please note that the online orientation is district-wide, so OCC students will not have to complete the orientation if they completed an orientation at Golden West College or Coastline College
If you experience any technical issues with your online orientation, contact us at fpr@occ.cccd.edu.
Complete step two of priority registration: SEP.
After completing the online orientation, you'll want to meet with a counselor and create a Student Education Plan (SEP). An SEP is a plan of courses that should be taken in order to reach a student's educational goal.
There are two types of plans: an abbreviated SEP (a first-semester plan) or a comprehensive SEP (a multi-year plan). During your appointment, counselors will discuss educational goals, appropriate course selection, and may refer you to support services.
Visit the Counseling webpage to book your appointment.
After your counseling appointment, access your SEP through your MyCoast Portal on the DegreeWorks tab.
Now you're ready to register for classes!
Find your registration window by logging in to MyCoast Portal > Registration > Registration Status & Checklist, then select the term to view your appointment. You can register for classes at any point on and after your window opens.
Whether you completed the priority registration steps or not, you can still register for classes.
If you need more help with registering, we have resources available for you. Watch our videos on How to Use the Class Schedule Search, How to Read the Class Schedule, and How to Register.
You can also join us, either virtually or in person, during one of our Registration Support events where we help you through the registration process and answer any questions.
Common Errors and Problems When Adding Classes
- Prerequisite/Test Score Error: This occurs when you have not met the prerequisite for the course. If you believe that you met the prerequisite, submit a Clearance Request Form . If you are not sure if you have met the prerequisite, this is How to Check and Clear a Prerequisite .
- Corequisite Error: A corequisite is a course that must accompany another course in the same semester (often a lecture and lab). To avoid this error, add both classes at the same time.
- Cohort Error: This means that the CRN that you are trying to add is related to a cohort class/program. You must be part of the cohort/program in order to add the class.
- Holds: We recommend that you call the number listed next to your hold as early as possible to take care of the problem.
Don't forget to pay your fees!
After registering for classes, you must pay your fees before the drop for non-payment deadline.
You can pay your fees the following ways:
- Card: Through your MyCoast Portal > Registration > Pay My Fees
- Check: At the Enrollment Center, located on the first floor of Watson Hall
- Cash: At the Bursars office, located in the College Center
