PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS

• EOPS QUALIFICATIONS
  • Be ​​California Resident or Non-Resident Tuition Exempt (AB-540)​
  • Be​​​​​​ a full-time student (12 units or more)​ unless you are an Accessibility Resource Center (ARC), CAFYES, or CARE student
  • ​​​First priority is given to students with less than 40 college applicable units​​​​​
  • ​​Have not earned a college degree or certificate
  • ​​Qualify for a  California College Promise Grant (CCPG) A, B, or C with zero EFC 
  • ​​Be determined educationally disadvantaged according to EOPS regulation
  • Meet EOPS state guidelines *​*

   

  **Criteria for EOPS students include qualifying for California College Promise Grant (CCPG) under option A, B, or C with a Zero EFC (Expected Family Contribution) as determined by the Financial Aid Office. According to California residency (AB 540 Eligible) and income requirements, EOPS applicants must be educationally disadvantaged, according to Title V, Article 2, section 56220(e)

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE EDUCATIONALLY DISADVANTAGED?

• Educationally disadvantaged students

  Students must meet ONE of the following criteria:***

  • Speak a language other than English at home
  • Be considered a first-generation college student (your parents/guardians did not graduate from a 4-year college or university)
  • Graduated from high school with a GPA below 2.50 on a 4.0 scale
  • Current or former foster youth
  • Not have graduated from high school or obtained a GED
  • Be from an underrepresented group

   

  ***Please note that meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission to the program

Cooperative Agencies and Resources for Education (CARE)

• ABOUT CARE

  CARE was established by the State of California in 1982 as a supplemental component of EOPS. CARE is a program for single parents who are currently receiving public assistance (CalWORKs/TANF/Cash Aid). The CARE program provides resources and support for disadvantaged single parents and promotes self-sufficiency through education and training.

  The application period is open year-round for CARE/DSPS/CalWORKs and Foster Youth students.

• CARE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently receiving public assistance (CalWORKs/TANF/Cash Aid) or have at least one child who receives public assistance
  • 18 years of age or older and designated as a single head of household
  • Have at least one child under the age of 18 who receives public assistance
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at Orange Coast College
  • Accepted into the EOPS program

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

• HOW TO APPLY?
  1. Complete an OCC Admission Application
  2. Complete the FAFSA including CCPG or The California Dream Act through the OCC Financial Aid Office
  3. Complete EOPS Application ****
  4. ​Submit official transcripts from all previously attended colleges to Admissions and Records.

   

  ****Please note that completing an application does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Eligibility requirements mandated by Title 5 Regulations determine acceptance. Please call the EOPS office if you have any questions (714) 432-5817.

• WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I APPLY?
  • The EOPS staff will review your application and will work with you to complete any missing requirements, or contact you within 2-3 weeks with your application status
  • If you are accepted, you will be notified via email, so please check your school emails regularly
  • If you are accepted, you will have to complete the following before receiving EOPS program services:
    1. EOPS orientation (virtual or live)
    2. Submit your current semester Class Schedule Bill via Canvas
    3. Attend your 1^st EOPS counseling appointment (1-hour Student Education Plan appointment)
• YOUR COMMITMENT TO THE EOPS PROGRAM
  • Enrolling full-time at OCC (12 units or more per semester)
  • Maintaining a 2.0 GPA ("C") or better
  • Upload your Academic Progress Report (APR) on time for the Fall and Spring semester and meet an EOPS counselor if you have a grade below a “C”
  • Complete the following three required contacts:
    1. 1st one-hour EOPS counseling appointment (Create a Student Education Plan)
    2. 2nd EOPS counseling appointment (Academic Progress Report)
    3. 3rd EOPS counseling appointment (Revise Student Education Plan)
