Responding to Immigration Enforcement

Federal Noncitizen Registration (known as the Alien Registration Requirement)

As of April 11, 2025, a new federal regulation requires most non-U.S. citizens to register with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) by completing  the Form G-325R.

Develop an Emergency Plan

Being prepared can help protect you and your family in case of unexpected immigration action.

Build Your Support Network

• Contact List: Create a list of trusted friends and family, including someone in your country of origin, who can be reached in an emergency.
• Childcare Plan: Designate a caregiver for your children by completing a California Caregiver's Authorization Affidavit to authorize care if needed.
• Medical Information: Write down key medical details (e.g., allergies, doctor info, medications) and complete a HIPAA form to give someone access to your medical records.
• Legal Support: Add a trusted immigration attorney to your emergency contacts.
• Emergency Fund: If possible, set aside emergency savings and include clear instructions for accessing it.
• Organize Critical Documents: Keep essential items with you and make copies of key documents (e.g., IDs, birth certificates, immigration records) and store them securely with someone you trust.

Talk with Your Children

• Review Key Information: Show them the contact list and document important school details.
• Create a Simple Plan: Write step-by-step instructions for what to do if a parent or caregiver is unexpectedly absent.
• Practice Together: Roleplay how to respond if approached by immigration officers.
• Secure the Plan: Store the emergency plan in a safe place and share the location only with trusted people.

Know Your Rights

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) created Red Cards to help individuals understand and assert their constitutional rights - regardless of immigration status. Red Cards are available at the UndocuScholars Center and online in 16 languages.

These cards include helpful language that individuals may use if approached by immigration or law enforcement officers. They are intended for informational and personal use and do not represent official guidance from Coast Community College District.

You can use ICE’s online Detainee Locator System to search for individuals currently held in immigration detention.
