  • Beginning Fall 2019, students no longer have to take the placement test for English and math. All students will have access to transfer level courses in English and math. Course recommendations on the level of support that a student needs in order to succeed will be based on high school coursework, grades, and GPA.

Students wishing to take English Second Language (ESL) courses will still need to take a placement test.

  • You can view your course recommendations in your MyCoast Portal > My Records > Unofficial Transcripts.

If you need help understanding your course recommendations, watch our video on How to Understand Your Course Recommendations.

  • Support recommendations are provided in order for you to succeed in a specific transfer course. Support can be in the form of non-credit courses or co-requisite courses.
  • You can receive a recommendation higher than English A100 - Freshman Composition by submitting a Prerequisite Clearance Request and uploading your AP scores or unofficial college transcripts.

You can receive a recommendation into Math A140 - Business Calculus, Math A170 - Precalculus, Math A180 - Calculus, and higher, by submitting a Prerequisite Clearance Request . You must upload your high school transcript, AP scores, or unofficial college transcripts. In order to use your high school transcript, it must meet the Math Placement Rules.

  • The Assessment Center does not offer any placement tests. Instead, students receive course recommendation for English and math based on their high school performance. Students interested in clearing the prerequisite for CHEM A180 can complete the Prerequisite Clearance Request and submit a copy of their high school transcript. Students interested in taking English Second Language (ESL) courses can complete the guided self-placement.
  • A prerequisite is a course that must be taken before you can enroll into another course.

A co-requisite is a course that must be taken at the same time as another course.

For more information about prerequisites and co-requisites, please visit the Prerequisite Clearances.

If you need help regarding prerequisites, watch our video on How to Check and Clear a Prerequisite.

  • Yes, you can visit the Future Pirate Center, located in the Student Union Room 102, for assistance with the admission application, online orientation, and course registration.

If you cannot make it to the campus, watch our video that goes over How to Register.
