OCC Student Health Center
If you are feeling unwell, but it is not an emergency, visiting the OCC Student Health Center is always the cheapest, easiest option. The Health Center has medical professionals who can help you with routine things and can write prescriptions when necessary.
Emergency Room or 911
Visiting the Emergency room or calling 911 should only be done in real, serious, and life-threatening emergencies. The wait times and costs at an emergency room are quite high and there are better options if you need to see a medical professional immediately, but you are not experiencing a life-threatening emergency.
If you do experience a life-threatening emergency, you may receive treatment at any hospital. There is a copay for each hospital visit, inpatient or outpatient per visit (waived if admitted to hospital).
Urgent Care
If you are sick or injured and it is not a life-threatening emergency, but you cannot wait for a scheduled doctor's appointment or you are outside of OCC Health Center service hours, you may want to visit an urgent care center instead. Urgent Care Centers are less expensive and provide faster service than the typical emergency room visit – this will save you money and time.
Urgent care centers provide treatment for minor injuries or sickness. Usually, appointments are not required.
Always check with the doctor or medical facility directly to confirm they are still participating in the Cigna network before you receive treatment.
